CHILDREN OF THE POOR- THEY HAVE RIGHT TO LEARN TOO

Any government or a local body will always be engaged in developmental activities and so also infrastructure improvement. Now a days, development and infrastructure have come to mean to roads, flyovers, underpasses, metro, mono etc., They mean of course. But social obligation also matter.

Today, I want to share with you one of my dreams in the final step of its nearing. I always wanted the deprived children of urban slums to get the education on par with their counterparts of upper strata of society.

Initiative started two years back, is nearing its completion. Today, I have green signalled to start a state of the art CBSE syllabus school being built by BBMP at a cost of 2.85 crores in my constituency. Situated in Ambedkar Nagar- Ramakrishna sevanagar of Dayananda nagar ward of my constituency- one of the areas where most of the people are poor and ignorant sections, this school will be run under the aegis of able Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan who has been pioneer in the Education sector. Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan will be running a CBSE school with all the latest infrastructure like computer labs, science labs and etal stressing practical education. Co-curricular activities have also been planned to be provided. I have asked them to admit children from now itself, so the ensuing acedemic year should see the children learn here.

Once upon a time, not too long ago, there was an Education Minister of our state, who had infamously quoted to have said, " Education is not a productive sector".

Today we have made it productive of taking oath to crate bright and promising youngsters for the society from the backward areas too.

I only hope and wish this model collaboration be emulated elsewhere. In fact, I have requested Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan to extend their expertise to the downtrodden children of other cities too and initial visits have already been taken up by me and their representatives.

Is it not a news that gives hope?

Once the schools go to CBSE control, what will happen to teaching Kannada?

I remember last year, Mr Kageri was talking about reining in on the CBSE schools in KArnataka to take control on them.

They don't teach Kannada leave alone Kannada medium.

What happened to the commitment of the goverment to the cause of teaching in mother tongue?

Mr Minister,
The Germans are renowned to be good at teaching too. They're known to have a wonderful curriculum - even better than CBSE. Why dont you show your constituency to these Germans? They will get even better "class" of education, right?

By forgetting its basic duties and openly showing the consequences of the same, your government has only triggered opinions among citizens of Karnataka that it is a government unable to cater to even the most primary needs of its people - education. If your government indeed thinks education should be a "productive sector" show it in your produce first by not shying away from strengthening the current State Curriculum to meet educational needs of the people, strengthen the Kannada medium education system to meet world class standards and so on. Dont just pass the buck and say the central govt. will take care of it!!

Education is best given in mother-tongue. I don't think CBSE provides education in Kannada.
I am afraid your efforts might not yield fruits.

Suresh Kumar avare,

While your move to introduce CBSE syllabus is laudable, introducing CBSE means keeping Kannada away! Instead, talk to Mr Kageri and try to improve the quality of our own state syllabus.
Please don't betray your Mother Tongue.

is the state cabinet minister recommending syllabus from the central board? maybe the current state govt thinks its time to close the state education department and hand it over to central government.

we are talking about the central school syllabus which does not teach kannada till the 5th standard, makes learning kannada optional, and a syllabus in social sciences that does not have anything to do with kannada or karnataka.

Manayare,
I got to read the newspaper articles regarding adopting CBSE syllabus in BBMP schools.
I regret to inform that this move is not in best interests of the future generation and also the interests of the state.
If CBSE had quality and KSEC lacked quality, why are parents still sending their wards to KSEC syllabus?
Also, its known that CBSE syllabus does not connect to the state of Karnataka in terms of content, languages or syllabi.
I am sure that Karnataka tax payers money are spent on promoting CBSE syllabi which would create future generation which does not know even a word of Kannada or a line of Kuvempu poem.
A day might come where they might ask 'What is Kannada? Is it an language similar to Sanskrit?'.
I hope that you take all these points into consideration before jumping into conclusions.
A dissapointed supporter,

Respected Suresh Kumar,

While your efforts to improve the quality of education are laudable the means are not the best since CBSE has nothing to with the Kannada or Kannada medium which the government is committed. wasnt the government disappointed with Kannada medium closing in Tamil Nadu. Now with CBSE schools Kannada medium schools will close down here let alone in Tamil Nadu. I am totally disappointed by this stance of yours. Please improve the quality of Kannada medium education.

Dear minister,
I don't know whether you are really aware of the fact that you are acting against the interests of kannadigas in the state. Please be proud of Kannada and Karnataka and don't insult them by taking steps like replacing Kannada schools with CBSC schools. Please revert your decisions asap. Being a minister of Karnataka where Kannada is the official language, you shouldn't have done this. I pity my Karnataka.

Manya Mantrigale,

Providing education to the deprived is always welcome and definitely will have all the support from the people of Karnataka. But giving the same through CBSE is the worrying factor here.

CBSE dont even teach Kannada till 5th. If BBMP schools give education without teaching Kannada, then I think it gives a very wrong message to the outsiders which is really bad to the growth of Kannada.

I hope you consider this and take necessary action.

Thanks,

Mr Minister,

"Children of the Poor - They have Right to Learn Too" - I thought it will be a good move by looking at the title of the article and started reading the article with lot of hopes. All the hopes went in vein as I went thro. You say "I always wanted the deprived children of urban slums to get the education on par with their counterparts of upper strata of society". This is correct. But what is the course of action to achieve this. You need to improve the quality of education and not the medium of instruction or the syllabus which most of the time very far to get digested from the children of this land. The school is build at a cost of 2.85 crores with all the latest infrastructure like computer labs, science labs and etal stressing practical education, etc.,. Why cant we have the same setup for the current schools leaving aside CBSE Syllabus? Why cant we improve the quality of eduction in terms of quality of books, quality of toilets, Class rooms, etc.,. There could be few things which we can adapt from CBSE. But that is not everything for everyone. It is meant for certain people and let those people chose if required. I hope this is a blunder from the government which will rectify soon. If not its high time for people of this state to start thinking of the agenda behind this move.

Dear Minister sir,

Normally CBSE educated so called elite people always think and express Union govt is better governed than state governments. Extending your argument would like to handover your government to Governor's rule so that it will be better managed according to these people. Also these set of people whenever get an opportunity openly declare BengaLuru be made an Union Territory. Extending the same argument would you agree for this also?

Also let us know if we have committed any blunder by admitting our children to state (syllabus) run Kannada Medium Schools.

PLEASE CLARIFY YOUR STAND considering all above points

Regards
Harihara
