DISEASED MINDS IN THE SYSTEM GIVE A JOLT TO COMMON MAN- An instance of message sent well

Each district of the State has an In-charge Minister. Presently, I look after Tumkur and Mysore districts. Once in three months, I review the progress of developmental works happening in the respective Districts, in what is known as KDP meeting. MLAs , MLC’s, MPs, Zilla Panchayat President, members, and all officers participate in the meeting.

Yesterday (31.8.10) I was in Tumkur to chair one such KDP meeting. We took up many issues, reviewed Action Taken Reports for the decisions taken during previous meeting, and directed specific actions on various subjects... It was an intense meeting which stretched beyond 5 hours.

Right after the meeting press friends asked few questions which went on well too. Just when I was busy answering, a Journalist came up to me with an issue which made me really furious. He disclosed the indecent attitude of an Executive Officer of a Taluk, who had come to attend the meeting. While everyone is supposed to be all his ears in an important meeting as this, this Officer was quite aloof ‘enjoying’ lewd pictures of females on his mobile. As a proof of it, the Journalist showed the scene caught on his camera.

It left me wild and annoyed. I went up to him, clasped his mobile, handed it over to the Police and later questioned him for his indecent behavior. In jitters, he was shocked. The sudden trap, left him dumbfounds. Obviously, he couldn’t defend himself. A man in his late forties he was, as an Executive Officer, has the serious responsibility of overseeing all the development works of a Taluk. But he must have felt, this meeting was not for him, instead was a time to derive this kind of boorish contentment. My irritation knew no bounds. I took him to task, and thankfully, I could restrain my anger. I decided to suspend him immediately, and ordered for an enquiry.

But that didn’t leave me satisfied at all. What is more afflicting is the growing tribe of such cranky, morally insensitive and otherwise corrupt babus which is increasingly proving a bane for the Government machinery and in turn for the Society. It pains even more, to mention, common man too is not taking these kinds of issues seriously as well and instead treats this as just a matter of joke.

I believe all the Political leaders, should at least resolve to proceed against such characters and never to shield such perverts. The Society is keen to see people at the helm with foresight, savvy, and if possible, some accountability. It is a daunting task, yet, we must revisit to retain our societal sanity.

Your thinking is one hundred percent right on this babudom, i myself has experienced this type of behaviour and attitude by them, to be frank i met one of the tahasildar (Sira Taluk) for some work of public interest, in which the officer has yeilded to the rich and mighty, i enlightened him on this matter, he was so unrest and uncalm to hear my words and in turn he shouted at me and i said will approach lokayuktha on the matter, his reaction was so rude and he said wont care for them and he know the way to get rid of them.

Dear Sir, I admire your fact finding wit. Even as a common man I appreciate your decision based on media on the spot reporting.

I don't think this is the first time that you have come across with such insensitive babus. They are plenty. You may not be used to such experience as a minister, but I am very much used to it. If you sanction Rs.100/- I doubt at least 1/- rupee reaches me on time.

Better to privatize the Government as well! (at least privatization will exploit us at one go in the name of quality!) At least not to ensure that the common man is on life support system and not dead yet by banking on Government Babus and common man forgiven by installment death. They are not going to change; because their term of office is minimum 58 and maximum 65 years!(Government Servents should serve to the fullest extent)

Yours of course not fixed!? And you know average Indian's life span is 65! Obviously and ultimately I am the looser always.

My question is, when that suspended E.O. will be joining back on Duty? Its not a silly question I believe.

Sir, SUPERB!!! The action that u have taken is befitting. Such irresponsible officers should not be shown place and if possible should be sent to jail and dismissed from service, which will be a great lesson to the Government official community.
Hats Off for your concern. Congratulations!!!

Dear Suresh Sir,

The action you have taken is very appreciable and action on time. But there are n number of such things happens without any one notice every day and public afraid to tell about that. If all the officers understand their responsibility then we can saw a little shine in society. You are working so hard and always in touch with people. Really you are the model for the present Karnataka young and old politicians. They have to learn from you how to swing with the changes.

Dear Sureshji,

i think u took right action in the most embarassing situtaion to a cabinet minister of your stature.

I also suggest you to reward the journalist for his presence of mind and also who has concnerns about the participation of the governmnet servants in the developmenatal activities.Although he was doing his duty,he needs to have conviction and also fearlessness to complain the same to you.
I hope we would have more journalists like him and more ministers like you who will always uphold honesty and dignity in public life.
